CONSTITUTION
A. Mallory will have the changes typed up by this weekend
ELECTIONS FOR 2010-2011
A. Christian may be bowing out as President because he has too much other stuff going on.
B. The President has to be willing to motivate and get the job done when no one else will.
C. We have a lot of members, but they’re not active.
D. If we need a new President, John could remain President for the fall semester to train the new person, and then they could take over in the spring when John is student teaching.
E. Dr. Resta asked if we could just appoint people due to the lack of active membership – we could, as long as people accept their appointment.
F. We have some strong people coming up from Stark – Michelle Snyder, Cindy, Courtney Banta. We wouldn’t want them to be President right away, but they could definitely get involved with an officer position. John will talk to them.
G. We took an informal poll to see who present would be interested in each position.
H. President – Christian?, John, Cara
I. President Elect – Amber, Cara
J. Secretary – Mallory
K. Treasurer – No expressed interest
L. Parliamentarian – Eric
FUTURE
A. The recent changes to the Constitution are taking us in a new direction.
B. Solo and Ensemble should be a service project, not just something for observation hours.
C. Plan our December service project now – collect toys, adopt a family, serve food at a homeless shelter, etc.

OCMEA SHIRTS
A. Everybody in attendance must sell eight shirts by next week.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC DANCE

INCREASING MEMBERSHIP
A. We’ve still taken leaps and bounds from last year.
B. Why don’t we have active members?
C. Non-music majors – go to the College of Education
D. Big rush party with all of the other organizations?
E. One combined meeting with all of the service organizations a semester?
F. What about ACDA? All of their members should also be part of OCMEA.
G. Research – Why are other OCMEA chapters successful? What are they doing that’s working, and how can we translate that into a plan for our chapter?
H. Extend personal invitations?

J. TBS Letters Thursdays – have OCMEA t-shirt days?
K. Info meeting at band camp along with Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma?
L. The other groups here are more elite – they have the option of saying no
M. We’re never going to be like our competing groups – we have a different mission.
N. Creating our own identity
O. Everyone present was assigned two universities. They must find out everything that they can about their assigned chapters and email Mallory their findings within a week.

U. We need a solid core of 20-25 people who come to meetings.
MEETING SCHEDULE
A. Plan only two meetings a semester – mid-September and mid-November
B. Make these significant meetings that we have 4-5 weeks to build up!
C. If there are only two, people will try harder to be there
D. Officers would meet more frequently
E. Open them up to nonmembers?
GRANT MONEY
A. Becoming a student organization – Mallory will look into it.
B. It costs money to get money? Maximum $300?
C. If we get money, we could offer 50% subsidies to the first 20 members, for example, making cost of membership $15 rather than $30.
