Meeting called to order at 7:34 PM.
OFFICERS
A. President – Christian Shoemaker. Music Ed, saxophone. Graduating sometime in the next five years!
B. VP – Michelle Snyder. Music Ed. From Stark. Not here tonight – rehearsal.
C. Secretary – Mallory Sajewski. Music Performance, oboe. Graduating August 2011.
D. Treasurer – Bethany Briggs. Music Ed, horn. Student teaching Spring 2012.
E. Sergeant at Arms – Courtney Banta. Music Ed, voice.
F. Historian – Cara McGuinness. Music Ed, flute. Student teaching Spring 2012.
ADVISORS
A. Dr. Patricia Grutzmacher
B. Dr. Craig Resta – join the Facebook fan page for his tie! J
RECRUITING
A. How do we make OCMEA more meaningful? Right now people see going to conference as the only benefit.
B. Think about this over the summer so that we can start off strong in the fall! Email Christian any and all ideas!
C. More activities – speakers, reading bands, rush events, etc.
D. OCMEA/OMEA is longer lasting – it doesn’t stop at age 22.
E. Christian and Cara can recruit during Marching Band.
F. Instill more excitement to make people WANT to be here. We technically have about fifty members, yet only six or so come to meetings regularly. We need to intrigue all of our members!
G. It’s not money… the cost of being in one of the Greek organizations could cover 3-4 of our members.
H. Make ourselves into a service organization – work contest at a school, etc. Even if the idea of OCMEA doesn’t appeal, the idea of service should.
I. We don’t have many choral majors because of ACDA. Courtney will hopefully help us in that department!
J. We got an award for membership growth! Cara will make copies to hang around MSP, and frame the original to hang.
K. Other groups have traditions and history, but we don’t. Cara is making a scrapbook and will talk to Marcus Neiman about traditions because he’s Historian of OMEA.
FUNDRAISING
A. Unless we get another lucky break, we have to pay our own way to conference.
B. Give us any and all ideas!!
T-SHIRTS
A. We have 9 orders, but we need 25
B. Courtney will take some order forms to Stark.
C. Invest a little to make a little. Go ahead and buy all 25 and sell the rest right away in the fall. Wear them to generate more interest!
D. Christian will deposit the money into the account and then take the orders to Kent Outfitters.
OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
A. Working with Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and Delta Omicron
B. Coordinate with them – DO will be pretty willing because almost the entire Exec Board is in OCMEA. TBS and KKY are busier though, and the new President of TBS isn’t even a music major, so it may be more difficult to work with those two organizations.
C. One combined meeting each semester?
D. Yay Reading Band – our first collaborative effort.
E. Joint fundraiser with DO? We’re both getting back on our feet.
READING BAND
A. Big hit!
B. KKY helped stuff and clean out folders, and TBS provided a lot of people.
C. There were even people not affiliated with any organization!
D. 1 reading band each semester?
2010-2011 MEETINGS
A. One business meeting and one activity each month
B. Think of guest speakers – Jim Dowdy? Mr. Curfman? Chas?
C. Get the schedule out ASAP!!
D. Facebook events!
ACTIVITIES
A. September – Open house with food again (big hit last year!)
B. October – Guest speaker (Cara will ask Mr. Neiman)
C. November – Reading Band (more interest later because of conducting classes)
D. December – Caroling/playing at nursing homes
E. January – Conference
F. February – TBD
G. March – Help at a school’s contest
H. April – TBD
Meeting adjourned at 8:12 PM.

A Fair well.
Greetings Everyone!
This past year has been really enjoyable for me. When I first arrived at Kent State University, I never thought I would ever join a student organization, let alone be the leader of one. This is my final official message as president of the KSU Chapter of OCMEA.
Whilst in my office, the one thing I wanted to always do was to have an event when all the student organisations worked together to better music. Last night, that dream finally came true with the first all student ran reading band. I have the photos up on Facebook, and hope to have a few up on the blog later this afternoon.
It is my hope that OCMEA continues to work with all the other organizations in the School of Music. It is my hope that last night's reading band is just the beginning of a long partnership between all of the groups. It is also my hope that the chapter will continue to grow and get involved in more activities as a whole.
I would like to thank all my friends and colleagues for pushing me through this semester. There hasn't been one person who hasn't been there to help when I asked for it. You are all wonderful people and musicians.
I will be around for another year, so if you ever need a friend, do not be afraid to say hi!
Thank you all again for a WONDERFUL experience,
John
